What Are Hyaluronic Acid Lip Fillers?

Let us start with addressing what hyaluronic lip fillers are: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a clear, thick, sugar derivative that your body naturally produces to keep your joints, eyes, and skin hydrated. Hyaluronic acid can attract and retain up to 1,000 times its own weight in water, which is what makes it ideal for use as a cosmetic filler.

Lab made HA dermal fillers go to work on the areas of your face where there is volume loss, fine lines, and wrinkles; both hydrating your skin and plumping it for results that last months at a time. And the beauty of going with hyaluronic fillers is that, should you be unsatisfied with your results for any reason, your doctor can dissolve the fillers with hyaluronidase injections.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers vs. Botox

As we mentioned above, a major difference between hyaluronic acid fillers and Botox is that HA exists naturally in the body. Another difference is that Botox and HA approach aging concerns from different angles. “HA fillers like Restylane differ from neurotoxins (like Botox) that ‘freeze’ the muscles to reduce wrinkles because fillers smooth the skin by filling wrinkles and increasing fullness,” Henry explains.

Where HA works to temporarily fill areas of volume loss and plump fine lines and wrinkles to make them nearly invisible, Botox temporarily freezes the underlying muscle so that static lines can’t be formed, and thus there’s nothing necessary of filling.

How to Prepare for Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Clients looking to get HA fillers should avoid blood thinners and alcohol for about a week prior to treatment. Doing so will reduce the risk of unwanted bruising.

Beyond that, or staff will sit down with you so that you feel fully educated on the matter, and are thus able to walk into your appointment with realistic expectations of what HA fillers will do for your face and lips.
